Inter Miami confirmed to appear in the 2025 Club World Cup“/>
FIFA confirmed that MLS club Inter Miami, captained by Argentina national team star Lionel Messi, will be one of the participants in the 2025 Club World Cup, which will be held in the United States (US) after winning the 2024 MLS Supporter’s Shield.
“I am proud to announce that, as one of the best clubs in the world, Inter Miami has the right to participate in the 2025 Club World Cup as a representative of the United States,” said FIFA President Gianni Infantino, quoted from FIFA’s online page, Sunday (20/10) .
The MLS Supporter’s Shield is an annual title awarded to the team with the best overall record in the MLS regular season.
In 2024, Inter Miami won the MLS Supporter’s Shield after winning 74 points from 34 matches, with a score of 22 wins,
four defeats and eight draws.
Apart from being a participant, Inter Miami is also confirmed to host the opening ceremony for the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup on June 15 2025.
“It will be a great celebration for football clubs globally. The tournament will be attended by 32 clubs from all over the world and
providing an opportunity for clubs, players, coaches and supporters to tell their stories,” said Gianni.
Inter Miami also has the status of being the 31st participant in the 2025 Club World Cup, which will be participated by 32 teams.
The final team that will be involved in the tournament is the 2024 Libertadores Cup champion who will be known after the final in Buenos Aires, Argentina, on November 30 2024.
The 2025 FIFA Club World Cup group draw will take place in December 2024.
The 2025 FIFA Club World Cup will take place in a different format from previous years. Usually, the championship is held every December and the new UEFA Champions League winners will compete in the semifinals.
In the latest edition, there were 32 teams from seven football confederations under FIFA participating in a group system tournament with a duration of almost one month, namely 15 June-13 July 2025. (Ant/Z-1)
