Inter-High Cycling Track Event: Matsuyama Gakuin Dominates Team Sprint, Chiharadai High School Triumphs in 4km Team Pursuit

On the second day of the inter-high cycling track event, the final of the team event was held. In the 4km team pursuit, Chiharadai High School beat the qualifying round and won the championship. In the team sprint, Matsuyama Gakuin, who set a new junior record in the previous day’s qualifying, won. In addition, men’s and women’s individual pursuit qualifiers were held, and keirin and sprint were played up to the 1/2 finals.

The Inter-High is held at the Hakodate Velodrome in Hakodate City, Hokkaido. On the second day of the track event, it rained intermittently from the morning, and the competition began in a chilly atmosphere. In the team sprint final, Matsuyama Gakuin, who set a new junior record in the previous day’s qualifying, played once morest Gakuho Ishikawa High School. Gifu Daiichi High School defeated Omiya Technical High School by a narrow margin in the 3rd place match.

The final of the 4km team pursuit was a match between Chiharadai High School and Shizuoka Kita High School. Chiharadai had an unexpected development in which one player dropped out in the first half, but still maintained a faster pace than Shizuoka Kita High School, who ran with four players, and overwhelmed them. He won the race with a time of 4 min 29 sec, better than the qualifying time. Kokoku High School defeated Wakayama Kita High School in the 3rd place match.

Kazuma Miura (Shonan Institute of Technology) was the only runner in the men’s 3km qualifier for the individual pursuit (=individual pursuit) with a time of 3:26. About 2.5 seconds behind, Takeo Kobayashi (Gakuho Ishikawa) came in second. In the women’s 2km race, Misaki Okamoto (Kitakuwata) finished first with a time of 2:30. Ayana Mizutani (Matsuyama Gakuin), who won the women’s road race, came in second, regarding two seconds behind. The men’s and women’s finals will be held tomorrow on the final day.
