MILAN (AP) — Inter Milan have a new star — with a familiar name — following Marcus Thuram helped the Nerazzurri take the derby with a 5-1 victory over AC Milan on Saturday and maintain the perfect start to the campaign .
Thuram scored a superb goal to extend Inter’s lead before half-time following assisting in the first in the fifth minute. Henrikh Mkhitaryan opened the scoring and added the third goal following Rafael Leão brought Milan closer in the midst of heavy rain at San Siro.
Former Milan midfielder Hakan Çalhanoğlu added another penalty 11 minutes from time and David Frattesi capped a great night for Inter in added time.
It was Thuram’s second goal for Inter in as many games. He has also assisted in three more in four games since he joined the club from Borussia Mönchengladbach.
Thuram’s father Lilian, who won the 1998 World Cup with France, was a defender for Parma and Juventus.
Inter is the only team to have won its first four games and the Nerazzurri took a two-point lead over Juventus, who hours before beat Lazio 3-1. Milan, which has lost the last five derbies, is three points behind Inter.
Later, Napoli, defending Serie A champions, will face Genoa.
UNBEATABLE JUVE
Dušan Vlahović struck twice and confirmed a convincing victory for Juventus and reached four goals in the first four games of the season.
Vlahović opened the scoring in the 10th minute with a volley following a cross from Manuel Locatelli and Federico Chiesa doubled the lead 16 minutes later with his third goal of the campaign.
Luis Alberto brought Lazio closer in the 64th, but Vlahović scored his second goal three minutes later with a pass from American Weston McKennie, who also participated in Juve’s other two goals.
Juventus remains unbeaten, while Lazio suffered its third defeat.
