Abu Dhabi: «The Gulf»
After two years of dedicated work on the front lines, dealing with complex cases in the intensive care unit and the difficult confrontation with cases of “Corona”, Sherine Marie Babu, a nurse at a hospital in Abu Dhabi, welcomed her first child at midnight on Eid al-Adha. The baby, Syria Mary Rooney, was born to her Indian parents, Sherine and Ronnie Alexander, at 00:00 at Medeor Hospital Abu Dhabi.
The arrival of the baby, Syria, on the day of Eid, brought joy to the family and Sherine’s colleagues, who joined with her friends to welcome the new baby and share their happiness.
Sherine has been actively working on the front lines for the past two years. As it dealt with complex “Corona” cases, and supported the injured, in the long term in the intensive care unit.
While on duty, she contracted a severe infection with the virus, in June 2021. She suffered a high fever and difficulty breathing and was admitted to the hospital, where she was working. She was discharged following recovering from complications.
Shereen is overjoyed regarding the birth of her daughter on a special day in the hospital where she works. “Sometimes, coincidences like this make us happy,” she said. I’ve been working on the front lines here. We have seen the plight of our patients in the intensive care unit and offered our support to them. When I was sick with the Corona virus, I received good care from my colleagues. Now, I am surrounded by them to welcome my first child. They take care of us. I will cherish this moment forever.”
Shireen’s colleagues in the intensive care unit came to visit her with gifts in the middle of the night to share their wishes with the family.
“She was a brave fighter on the front lines,” said Dr. Walid El-Sherbiny, a consultant gynecologist and head of the gynecology department. Welcoming Angel Syria on this blessed day is a happy and proud moment for all of us.”

Burjeel Hospital, Abu Dhabi, in the early hours of Saturday morning, received the child Abdel Rahman, born to the Egyptian couple Omar Mohamed, and Yasmine Sadek, the first child in the family.
“I hope God blesses our child and our family,” said the proud father, Omar.
Dr. Fadi George Hashem, a consultant obstetrician and gynecologist at the hospital, shared his joy in welcoming the first children of Eid Al-Adha, and said: Welcoming a new life to the world and being part of that journey is wonderful.
