Intended for players who are tired of the big worlds

Ubisoft is currently in some trouble. One of the games that should help the publisher out of the crisis? Assassin’s Creed Mirage, which is expected to be released in 2023.

Since the announcement last year, this has been committed to one motto above all: Back to the roots. After the series recently assumed almost gigantic proportions, everything should now be a little smaller again. According to Creative Director Stéphane Boudon, one of the reasons for this was the community.

Assassin’s Creed Mirage: Fan request was decisive

After Ubisoft 2017 with Assassin’s Creed Origins gave the series a new coat of paint, there was also criticism from the fan community in the years that followed: the series had strayed too far from its own roots and was now simply too big in scope.

“We heard from our fans that we wanted a character-driven story that focused on the key pillars of the early ACs in a more personal setting,” Boudon said GamesRadar. The developers were also convinced and decided to start such a project.

The idea of Assassin’s Creed Mirage was born, which puts you in the shoes of Assassin Basim in 9th Century Baghdad. There, as a player, you fight again against the well-known enemies of the Assassin Order and deal less with other distractions.

Classic strengths with modern technology

But Assassin’s Creed Mirage isn’t just meant to be a return to the franchise’s past assets. Instead, the development team will of course use the strengths of the current console generation and also incorporate their own experience over the past few years.

“The increased hardware power and expertise we’ve developed also allows us to have a richer and denser map compared to the first ACs, and for us that means more gameplay choices, more interactions between systems, more depth. It also means incredible and immersive detail to treat Baghdad as one of the main characters of Mirage,” Boudon told GamesRadar.

Gameplay is going back to a stealth approach. Many of the sneak mechanics have been updated and you can also disappear into the crowd again to shake off pursuers or pursue targets.

There is currently no exact release date for Assassin’s Creed Mirage. Similar to Skull and Bones, which was postponed again just yesterday However, the action-adventure should appear in the 2023-2024 financial year, i.e. sometime between April 1, 2023 and March 31, 2024.
