Intelsat, operator of one of the world’s largest integrated satellite and terrestrial communications networks and a leading provider of in-flight connectivity (IFC), has launched new services in Brazil that combine local support, new teleport facilities and broader satellite coverage to provide connectivity services to more users across the region.
All of Brazil’s assets, technology and infrastructure are operational, including:
New high-throughput satellite capacity: Intelsat 46e and Galaxy 28 satellites, deployed in Brazil and Latin America, will provide reliable connectivity for enterprise customers, mobile network operators, media and commercial aviation. New teleport facilities: Located in the Rio de Janeiro region, the facilities expand Intelsat’s existing global network and enable direct connections between Intelsat satellites and Brazil’s local terrestrial networks, decreasing the distance traveled by users’ Internet traffic. Operations Center Expansion: Intelsat’s Network Operations Center (COR) in Brazil has expanded its team to better support regional customers, offering 24/7 access to support representatives fluent in five languages , including Brazilian Portuguese.
“With the combination of more satellite capacity, a new teleport and an operations center it is easier for our customers to provide higher quality services to more users throughout Brazil,” said Ricardo La Guardia, regional vice president of sales for Intelsat Latin America. “Our expansion in Brazil is part of our strategy to empower the broader Latin American region with unparalleled connectivity, targeting underserved areas and remote regions like the Amazon, promoting digital inclusion.”
According to a recent GSMA report, around 25% of the Brazilian population (more than 50 million people) lives within network coverage, but does not use mobile internet services. Improving connectivity options for service providers will help boost the digital economy and pave the way for business growth across Brazil in sectors such as government, education, healthcare and agriculture.
“The availability of local infrastructure and expertise in the country is a fundamental step towards improving Internet and telecommunications infrastructure in all regions of the country,” said La Guardia.
