Intel continues to strengthen its own division dedicated to the development of graphics processors. This time around, AMD’s senior researcher and lead architect for discrete graphics chips, Rohit Verma, has joined the company’s ranks. He held this position for three years, and in total he worked at AMD since 2013 and participated in the implementation of many projects.
It is worth explaining that the position of lead architect for AMD discrete graphics chips means that Verma was directly responsible for implementing the joint work of the GPU itself, as well as memory and power controllers, cache and other components located on a chip.
In general, for more than 8 years of work at AMD, Verma managed to participate in various projects that covered the development of discrete graphics accelerators for computers and laptops, as well as the creation of single-chip systems. Since Verma has been a Senior Fellow at AMD in recent years, his move is a major boost for Intel.
It is worth noting that Rohit Verma had already worked at Intel from 1999 to 2013, where, among other things, he held the position of lead chip architect. Curiously, current Intel CEO Pat Gelsinger, who joined the company in 1979 at the age of 18 as a quality control technician, was already in an executive position by the time Verma arrived in 1999, heading the Desktop Products Group. The return of Gelsinger to Intel in 2021 marked the beginning of a turbulent process, which, among other things, is aimed at developing a direction related to the development of graphics accelerators. And Verma will clearly strengthen this direction.
