Intel appears to be carrying out the last tests before the launch of the 14th generation Core processors. This Friday (13), three models from the line appeared in a FactorioBox benchmark test, a platform that allows you to evaluate the performance of chips when running the Factorioa factory construction and management simulation game.
In Factorio, performance is calculated in “updates per second” or UPS. Higher values mean that the hardware processes game content faster. The Core i9-14900K, predicted to be the most powerful model of the generation, proved capable of performing 276 UPS, significantly less than the AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D and the Ryzen 7 5800X3D.
Presumably due to the high cache memory capacity, AMD processors equipped with 3D V-Cache technology achieve higher scores in Factorio. The Ryzen 7 5800X3D, for example, can perform 340 updates per second, while the Ryzen 7 7800X3D leads the comparison with 450 updates per second.
Compared to its predecessor, the Core i9-14900K brings an improvement of just 4% compared to the Core i9-13900K. The Core i7-14700K, in turn, can perform 7% more updates per second than the Core i7-13700K, possibly due to its increase in efficiency core count from 16 to 20. Compare:
Core i9-13900K → Core i9-14900K: +3,7%
Core i7-13700K → Core i7-14700K: +6,8%
Core i5-13600K → Core i5-14600K: +1,2%
Previous leaks indicate that Intel’s 14th generation processors will have the same “Intel 7” lithography and “Raptor Cove” and “Gracemont” architectures as the 13th generation. The Core i7-14700K may be the only model with a significant performance improvement, as it will have four additional efficiency cores.
It should be noted that the advantage of the Ryzen 7 7800X3D and the Ryzen 7 5800X3D over the Core i9-14900K is due to the fact that Factorio It is a simulation game, so it is heavily CPU dependent. With the high cache capacity, the red team’s hardware is able to retain more information in quick access, speeding up the process.
Games with a greater focus on graphics and less dependent on logic, on the other hand, do not have as much load on the CPU compared to the GPU, so the scenario may be significantly different in other titles.
Last Tuesday (10), an alleged leaked document from Intel shows graphics that compare the performance of the Core i9-14900K with the Ryzen 9 7950X3D, and in most cases, the new processor would be able to defeat its rival with a small advantage .
The data is not yet official, so we must wait for the launch of the new 14th generation processors, which should take place on October 17th.
