Intel Core i9-12980HX approaching: a beast?

the Intel Core i9-12980HX processor would therefore be the real top of the range of the family Alder Lake for laptops. Until now, laptop performance enthusiasts might count on the Core i9-12900HK with 14 cores and 20 threads (6x P-Core + 8x E-Core). What a future i9-12980HX ou 12900HX (the names are only hypotheses for the moment) might arrive in the second half of the current year and offer a “complete” configuration, ie 16 cores / 24 threads.

This information is still to be filed among the rumors but it doesn’t come out of nowhere. The 8+8 configuration for laptops was leaked last year. This variation has been listed on a slide official as S-BGA or H55 configuration. According to the document, the Alder Lake 16-core “mobile” CPU would target the “Muscle” segment of 45-55W.

Fleas Alder Lake-H55 are not really strangers since it has already been revealed that these are technically desktop CPUs on a BGA form factor. The TDP would be limited to 55W but might easily climb above 115W.

This series of CPUs is intended to be combined with the best dedicated GPUs on the market to create the most powerful laptops on the market. Obviously, we must also expect a more suitable chassis to allow more muscular dissipation given the TDPs of the associated CPUs and GPUs.
