The BIOS source code for the Intel 12th Gen Core 12000 series (codename: Alder Lake) / 600 series chipset platform has been leaked.of foreign mediaTom’s Hardwarereported.
A file purported to be the source code of the Intel Core 12000 series (Alder Lake) BIOS was leaked to 4Chan, and a copy of it was posted to GitHub. The file is a 2.8GB ZIP file that expands to 5.8GB following unzipping, and is said to contain a large amount of files and tools for building BIOS/UEFI. We have not been able to confirm if this is genuine or if it actually contains sensitive source code. The culprit of the hacking has not been clarified, and it is also unknown how the files were obtained. One of the documents says “Lenovo Feature Tag Test Information”. If the file contained sensitive information, it is unclear whether it might be used to develop exploits. It’s even harder to exploit if you don’t get it from Intel, but from an outside vendor. Most motherboard vendors and OEMs will have similar tools and information for building firmware for Intel platforms. It’s also likely that Intel itself removed information that was too sensitive before releasing it to outside vendors. However, it is never a good idea to let such sensitive information fall into the wrong hands. Small pieces of information can lead to big vulnerabilities. |
