In any case, the industrial world is already very interested in it and the list of potential industrial applications of quantum computing is growing by the day. The promises? Among other things, faster, more precise results, better supply chain management and improved decision-making.

The many industrial applications of quantum computing

Quantum computing already arouses strong interest from large industrial groups.

One example is Airbus’ development of a quantum algorithm running on the IonQ quantum computer. Airbus has tackled the optimization of aircraft loading in order to increase operational efficiency and reduce fuel consumption. Thanks to this algorithm, the aircraft manufacturer was able to find the best solution among 500 million possibilities with 28 qubits.

Furthermore, Airbus has also partnered with BMW Group and Quantinuum, as part of of a global quantum computing competition called “The Quantum Mobility Quest”. Its goal? To address the urgent challenges related to mobility, particularly those of hydrogen mobility.

This partnership will accelerate future research on quantum problems, particularly for experiments related to fuel cell technologies. The modeling, on a quantum architecture, of the chemical reaction of oxygen reduction on the surface of a platinum-based catalyst is one of them. concrete example.

NVIDIA, BMW Group and Classiq Partner to Improve Electric Vehicle Energy Efficiency with Quantum Algorithms

Partnerships are multiplying in the emerging ecosystem of quantum computing. Last January, for example, we announced the opening of a research center resulting from a partnership between NVIDIA, the Sourasky Medical Center in Tel Aviv and the company Classiq Technologies.

Classiq Technologies, a leader in quantum software development, works closely with quantum cloud providers and advanced hardware developers, among others. The company is also backed by major investors such as HPE, HSBC, Samsung, Intesa Sanpaolo and NTT.

The new partnership that has been signed between NVIDIA, BMW Group and Classiq concerns this time the optimization of electrical and mechanical systems. The goal is to increase the overall efficiency of electric vehicles by solving a complex computational problem: the choice of the best combination of components, which involves a large number of parameters (electric motors, batteries, cooling systems, connections, etc.).

In a press release, Lukas Mueller, Lead Future Compute at BMW Group IT, says that this partnership has enabled them to “achieve innovative quantum integration that pushes the boundaries of what is possible in the automotive sector”.

Then he adds: “ NVIDIA’s quantum platform played a critical role in simulating this complex algorithm, facilitating its extensive testing and refinement.”

Finally, according to Nir Minerbi, CEO of Classiq Technologies, “This project reflects the power of collaboration in quantum computing. By combining the best of quantum hardware, software and automotive expertise, we have been able to achieve revolutionary advances in record time.”
