Insulting remark to opposition MP; Prime Minister of New Zealand apologized

Wellington: New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinta Ardern apologized for speaking insultingly to the opposition MP.

The Prime Minister apologized following he was overheard calling the Leader of the Opposition David Seymour arrogant (arrogant) while speaking in Parliament and the incident became controversial.

The Prime Minister’s defamatory comments came following David Seymour, leader of the opposition ACT, questioned Ardern in Parliament.

Seymour objected to the Prime Minister’s remarks and asked the Speaker of the House of Representatives to withdraw them from the record.

Later, Jacinta Arden’s office announced that she apologized for the remark.

The incident took place during a debate in Parliament on Tuesday.

Seymour called on the prime minister to set an example by ‘apologising for the government getting it wrong on any issue’, and Ardern later openly acknowledged mistakes made, including in her handling of the Covid-19 pandemic.

In her reply speech, Ardern said there were many occasions when her Labor government acknowledged there had been lapses, including in the country’s Covid response.

“For example, we have openly acknowledged that isolation and quarantine were very difficult to manage at the time and that many people were affected by it.

“We have always made decisions that we believe are best for New Zealand,” added Arden.

But following giving this answer, the Prime Minister sitting in his chair slowly said ‘such an arrogant question’ through the microphone.

But the Prime Minister’s Office later confirmed that Ardern had apologized to Seymour for the remark.
