Instituto vs. Boca, for the Professional League: result, summary and more

La Gloria and Xeneize, who did not shoot at goal throughout the match, tied in a game that had a goal disallowed at the last minute for offside. That was how the curtain came down on Sunday.

With renewed energy after having overcome the Copa Sudamericana play-off against Independiente del Valle, Boca tied 0-0 with Instituto in Alta Córdoba, for the eighth date of the 2024 Professional League.

The Xeneize had a higher percentage of possession, but lacked depth and ended up playing further away from Manuel Roffo, to the point that they didn’t even shoot at goal. They barely tried with a deflected header from Tomás Belmonte and a poor shot from Lautaro Blanco from long distance in the first half. Edinson Cavani and Miguel Merentiel, who was pushed back a little, made very few touches.

Beyond the difference in play, Diego Martínez’s team had fortuitous situations that helped them keep the score at zero, such as Sergio Romero’s great save against Fernando Alarcón’s violent header.

The other clear chances for La Gloria came at the feet of Santiago Rodríguez and Ignacio Russo, who denied his teammate a goal with an offside call, in a play in which the rebounds influenced in favor of the home team.

At the start of the second half, Boca began to attack more and be more direct. Belmonte stole the ball after a false start by Unión and Cavani slipped when he hooked and was preparing to shoot.

Later, the intentions were reversed in Alta Córdoba. Santiago Rodríguez almost put it in the corner and Braian Cuello tried with a low shot that Romero saved.

With the score still unavailable, the match was back and forth with quick transitions, more so on the home side. A penalty was claimed by Gary Medel for an alleged hold on Jeremías Lázaro and, in the last play of the match, the linesman disallowed a goal against Romero for a clear offside by Gregorio Rodríguez.

With this result, Boca (which has its match against Banfield) was placed nine points behind Huracán (18), the leader, while Instituto was fourth with 14 units.
