Institutions are being given unlimited powers, do not accept such decisions, Maulana Fazlur Rehman – Pakistan

Maulana Fazlur Rehman, head of Jamiat Ulema Islam (F) says that institutions are being given immense powers, People’s Party and PML-N are strangling democracy.

Maulana Fazlur Rehman held a press conference ahead of the National Assembly and Senate sessions in Islamabad on Monday, in which he criticized the coalition government over the Anti-Terrorism Act amendment bill.

He told the media that a two-day meeting of Majlis Shura of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam was held. Congratulations on the amendment related to the Scientific Council.

According to Maulana Fazlur Rehman, the Majlis Shura has declared the move to pass the Religious Madrasas Act and bank accounts as stable.

He said that we condemn Israel’s attack on Palestine as a war crime, people should come forward to provide financial support to Palestinians, orphans are left in Palestine.

He said that the government wants to amend the Anti-Terrorism Act, once again powers are being given to the defense agency which are not under their responsibility, previously NAB was talking about such powers. It will be tantamount to martial law and a slap in the face of democracy.

The JUI chief said that the Muslim League-N is passing such an act today, by which they are getting blackmail on their face, the government should think about which clauses of the twenty-sixth constitutional amendment were withdrawn, whether today’s amendment act is the twenty-sixth amendment. Not against? Today, on the other hand, by passing an act, the army is empowered in civilian matters.

He said that the JUI has declared the Act passed up to the limits of Islamabad as illegal, the Act passed is related to the times, it is not bound by any illegal decision, we are accountable to Allah Almighty and not to the Supreme Court. If there is any new amendment, why not accept martial law, we will go public against the new amendment.

Maulana Fazlur Rehman said that there is a conscience that can be disturbed, he realizes that they are joking with the religion of Allah.

Maulana Fazlur Rehman said that I declare that I am not bound to implement any illegal decisions or orders, we do not accept such decisions.

**Interview with Maulana Fazlur Rehman on Recent Amendments‍ and Democracy**

**Interviewer:** Thank you for joining us today, Maulana Fazlur Rehman. You recently held‍ a press conference criticizing the government’s amendments to the ⁤Anti-Terrorism Act. Can you elaborate on why you view these amendments‌ as a threat to democracy?

**Maulana Fazlur Rehman:** Thank you for ‌having me. These amendments are indeed troubling as they reallocate significant powers to defense agencies that should not fall ‍under their responsibility. This is reminiscent of previous abuses of power,⁣ particularly the actions of the NAB. We believe this move ‌is not ⁢just an overreach, but a fundamental assault⁢ on⁢ democratic principles,‍ effectively paving the⁢ way for what could be perceived as ⁣martial law.

**Interviewer:** You mentioned ‌in your remarks that this is an⁤ insult to the 26th Constitutional⁣ Amendment. Can you explain what that amendment entails and why this is particularly significant?

**Maulana Fazlur Rehman:** The 26th Constitutional Amendment sought to protect ‌the democratic⁢ process‍ and⁤ the rights of our⁣ citizens. By ‍undermining these provisions through such amendments, ‌the government is not just disregarding the constitution but is also revealing the‌ fragility of our democratic⁢ institutions.‍ It is indeed a stain⁤ on our⁣ democracy when the ruling coalition disregards the ‍foundations set to protect it.

**Interviewer:** During your presser,⁢ you also‍ talked about ⁤other recent⁢ developments, including the Religious Madrasas Act. What are ‍your thoughts on this particular legislation?

**Maulana⁣ Fazlur Rehman:** Our Majlis Shura has deemed the passing of⁤ the Religious Madrasas Act as stable. However, we advocate for careful oversight to ensure that any ⁣regulations ⁢on religious ⁤institutions do not infringe upon their ⁢autonomy or the rights of the ‍communities they serve. It’s important that we maintain the balance between necessary ⁣regulation and respect for religious freedom.

**Interviewer:** ‌Additionally, you condemned Israel’s actions against Palestine. How does this relate to your broader concerns about governance and democracy in Pakistan?

**Maulana Fazlur Rehman:** The situation in Palestine‌ is a humanitarian crisis that demands our attention and ‍support. Our response⁣ to such international issues reflects our values as a nation. When our government is distracted by internal power struggles and ⁣undermining democracy, it is imperative ‍that we, as citizens ‌and leaders, advocate for justice on a global scale. The two issues are interconnected; a strong, democratic ⁤Pakistan is key to⁤ supporting⁢ global justice and standing up against oppression anywhere, including Palestine.

**Interviewer:** Thank⁣ you for sharing your insights, Maulana, and for discussing these crucial ‍issues with us.

**Maulana⁤ Fazlur Rehman:** Thank you for providing this platform to discuss these important matters. It is vital that we stay ⁤informed and engaged in both our domestic and‌ international responsibilities.
