Dear friend, dear friend,

On September 1, a rally will take place in front of the Tribunal de Grande Instance of Paris 17th (Metro Porte de Clichy) in support of Professor Gilles-Éric Séralini.

This event is organized by the association Toxic Secretsan organization whose objective is to alert the general public and the authorities to the dangers of pesticides(1).

Toxic Secrets : a campaign to relaunch the debate on pesticides with the authorities and the general public

Toxic Secrets comes from other associations such as Nature and Progress, Future generations and 60 other associations(1).

Toxic Secrets organized, for example, a symposium last December at the National Assembly to denounce the poor application of the law on glyphosate.

The organization regularly updates issues crucial to health, such as the cocktail effect of pesticides(2).

This formula designates the fact that several chemical molecules mixed together have a toxic effect greater than the sum of the cumulative toxic effects.

Professor Séralini, a whistleblower on the front line once morest multinationals

Toxic Secrets knows perfectly well that Professor Gilles-Eric Séralini is one of the major scientific whistleblowers in the field of pesticides(3).

He is the first to have really sounded the alarm regarding the dangers of these substances.

He also demonstrated that the studies presented by the manufacturers often relate only to the main active ingredient, and “forget” to evaluate the adjuvants and the overall formula of the product.(4).

That’s what happened with Monsanto’s Roundup, which was even more toxic than glyphosate itself.

Professor Gilles-Eric Séralini’s studies have traveled the world and that is why the chemical industry hates him.

It is also because of this that journalists in the pay of this chemical industry sometimes try to defame him.

But this time, the scientist decided to file a complaint once morest three journalists who publicly criticized him for having spoken in the context of an issue of the show Correspondentaired on January 17, 2019(5).

The 2012 study that set things on fire

One of the reports was entitled “Monsanto: the factory of doubt”.

The journalists claimed that the professor had published fraudulent studies, which is false.

On the other hand, it is true that the first study he published on glyphosate did not please Monsanto at all.

She was called Long term toxicity of a ROUNDUP herbicide and a ROUN-DUP-tolerant genetically modified maize(6).

This study showed that rats exposed to glyphosate over a long period were more likely to develop tumors than rats that were not exposed to this substance.

The first scientific journal to publish the study took fright and retracted it.

A second newspaper therefore took over. And the study was validated(6,7).

On the other hand, it has sparked an immense scientific debate.

Supermarket customers tested positive for glyphosate

The emission ofCorrespondent on glyphosate is excellent. If you haven’t seen it, you can find it here.

It all starts with a scene at the supermarket.

Elise Lucet meets customers in the fruit and vegetable department. She asks them if they know what glyphosate is.

They all reply that it is a pesticide and that it is bad for your health.

The journalist then offers them to be tested.

It is enough to urinate in a small vial. Customers agree.

They all have glyphosate in their blood!

When two opposite worlds intersect!

Elise Lucet then goes to meet two cereal farmers. One, Vincent, uses glyphosate; the other, Olivier, refuses the molecule and even all pesticides.

The latter explains that he has been without chemical pesticides for 27 years. He does not want to damage his health or pollute the environment.

The meeting between the two men is beautiful. Each tries to understand the world of the other.

Vincent pays 20,000 euros per year for pesticides of all kinds: herbicides, fungicides and insecticides. He protects his body when pouring these phytosanitary substances in his fields.

He explains that the effectiveness of the product is exceptional. A single drop kills every plant it touches. It penetrates the roots of plants and the field turns yellow. Everything is dead.

The two farms cover 130 hectares.

Vincent is alone for his exploitation. They are three at Olivier. For weeding, Olivier has an efficient point machine as well, as well as ploughing.

Vincent doesn’t need to plow.

On an area of 11 hectares, Vincent needs an hour to weed, Olivier devotes the day to it.

Olivier’s yields are slightly weaker and more irregular than those of Vincent.

Olivier’s income is slightly higher than Vincent’s because organic is more expensive.

When scientists sound the alarm

One of the first studies on glyphosate showing its toxicity dates from 1984. But the researchers, under pressure from Monsanto, retracted.

In 1999, Monsanto commissioned a study from Jim Parry, a brilliant toxicologist from the University of Swansea, Wales.

Jim Parry produced a report whose conclusions are very clear: Roundup produces lesions in the DNA.

The study was buried and protected by trade secret for 18 years.

The researcher asked the company to do further research but nothing was done.

The program then focuses on the work of Pr Gilles-Eric Séralini. We see the images of his famous study of 2012 with his white rats with huge tumors.

The researcher explains that he himself was surprised by these results. He reminds us that even at very low doses, Roundup is a deadly poison.

Monsanto manipulations exposed

The report goes on to explain how Monsanto tried to discredit the study by producing counter-studies on glyphosate.

These manipulations were made public thanks to the Monsanto papers.

These internal documents of the company were made public by the American justice during various procedures carried out by victims of cancers caused by glyphosate.

The most publicized was that led by the American gardener, Dwayne Johnson. The American justice recognized that his cancer had been caused by the daily use of glyphosate.

Gilles-Eric Séralini went to the trial as an expert.

At the end of this documentary, three journalists criticized the presence of Professor Gilles-Eric Séralini.

They questioned his probity.

And that is why the scientist, now accustomed to arm wrestling once morest Monsanto and its good media soldiers, decided to attack them.

The gathering of September 1, 2023

The rally on September 1 is therefore decisive.

It constitutes one more battle in this long confrontation once morest Monsanto and its deadly agricultural model.

This is also why I am happy to relay the appeal of Toxic Secrets.

The meeting takes place at 1:30 p.m. in front of the Tribunal de Grande Instance of Paris 17th (Metro Porte de Clichy).

Naturally yours,
