Institute for the Protection of Natural Health Health also comes from others!

Dear friend, dear friend,

Health comes largely from lifestyle.

It is a documented fact.

For example, eating organic reduces the risk of cancer by 25%.(1).

Another example is the combination of four factors, associated with a healthy lifestyle, reduces the risk of contracting the most common and deadliest chronic diseases by 80%(2).

These four factors are(2) :

  • adopt a healthy diet;
  • maintain a healthy weight;
  • avoid tobacco;
  • engage in regular physical activity.

However, we too often forget a factor in the way of life: the quality of human relations.

However, it is a determining element of your health.

Meet life…

Your life, like mine, is first and foremost a story of encounters.

Your parents met and before them, theirs and many others.

You have been welcomed or collected in a happy or unhappy environment.

You learned your mother tongue there, you received a culture there, you even received family bacteria, or those around you, which made up your microbiota at birth.

Even now, every encounter you have is an exchange of words, gestures and bacteria or viruses…

These meetings have forged you. They still shape you.

There were good and bad. For some there has been a lot of good, for others it is less true.

Wounds, especially those of childhood, have scarred your psyche and even your body(3,4).

All of this has effects on your health.

The quality of your microbiota, your immunity, your stress levels and even your heart rate are influenced by your relational environment. (3)

The many benefits of social connection

Maintaining good relations with your fellow human beings is excellent for your health.

In particular, this allows you to boost your self-confidence(3,4).

Meeting others and taking care of them is therefore also a way to love yourself better.

It improves your sense of empathy and allows you to build more stable and lasting human relationships(3,4).

It is an effective way to fight once morest the Depression.

Your immune system himself finds himself reinforced. Clearly, you are more resistant to viruses and pathogens when you meet more people and are in contact with others.(3,4).

It has a beneficial effect on your remissions when you are sick(3).

Blue zones are places of privileged social ties

Finally, all blue areas of the world, these places where the rate of centenarians is much higher than elsewhere, have in common the fact of hosting close-knit communities. (5.6)

These famous blue zones include: the islands of Okinawa in Japan, Ikaria in Greece, the mountain villages of the Nuoro province in Sardinia or the Nicoya peninsula in Costa Rica.(5,6).

These are places where people live better and longer than elsewhere.

Scientists believe this is due to lifestyle. And they include in this notion the quality of human relations(5).

In all these blue zones, individuals live in community(5).

Family or local ties remained strong.

Depression and isolation are less present than elsewhere(5,6).

No one is left behind. Everyone finds their place.

Toxic relationships lead to heavy pathologies

When human relations are bad or even toxic, their influence on health can be deleterious(4).

A tense situation or past wounds can create mental and even metabolic disorders, like cancer(4,7).

A very concrete explanation of this phenomenon is the appearance of a inflammation accruesometimes chronic, due to relational stress(8).

Indeed, the situation generates a recurring stress which itself acts on the cytokines, these alert proteins, which make it possible to trigger an inflammatory reaction.(8).

It is the body’s response to stress.

We now know that this inflammation, whatever the cause (social, nervous, physical or moral stress), has an impact on heart or metabolic diseases.(9,10).

And in the latter, there are type II diabetes, obesity and certain cancers.(4,11).

Chronic inflammation can also cause depression which is itself an open door to other pathologies.(12).

Relational stress and cancers: the confirmed link

In a 2012 study, researchers from the University of California followed a group of 122 individuals, men and women(8).

The latter had to note in their diary their emotions and in particular the stressful events they faced in their lives.

At the same time, they were given regular oral swabs.

The researchers crossed the information between the paper and the swabs.

They noted an increased presence of inflammatory proteins in those who had experienced relationship stress.

These proteins are also used as biological markers indicating the possible presence of cancer. (4.8)

Body and mind are intimately linked

It is now accepted that the Human relationships have a powerful effect on mental and physical health.

When marked by conflict or lack of trust, they can create deep damage to the psyche and the body.(3).

Proponents of psychosomatics have been saying this for a long time.

We find this notion among those who speak of symbolic compensation(13). For them, illness is a response to injury, an unconscious guilt.

These visions are sometimes mocked or ignored.

However, materialist and chemical medicine is gradually arriving at the same conclusions through sampling, cross-referencing and successive studies on the links between body and mind.

The ancients already knew that…

All traditional medicines, such as Chinese medicine, already associated emotions with the health of the body(14).

Thus, the time you spend taking care of your relationships with your loved ones and those around you is also beneficial for your health.

And if you feel lonely or have no idea how to relate to others, don’t hesitate to take action.

It has always seemed to me easier to relate to others through action than through words. It’s so easy to argue over ideas that you forget the next day!

Sport, theatre, the organization of conferences, involvement in associations have always been ways for me to make fruitful encounters.

But these are just hints…

Naturally yours,

Augustine of Livois
