Grant-Leon Ranos is a big hit with the Bayern amateurs. On his national team debut, the 19-year-old scored twice. Will the ex-BVB youth player be the late Lewandowski successor?
March 28, 2023 – Armenia vs. Cyprus. The 59th minute of the game begins. The Armenians take a short corner kick from the left. 19-year-old Grant Leon Ranos is sure of himself: he puts the ball into the far corner from 25 meters on the left.
When the leather hits the net, the young national player can no longer be held back. Ranos jumps and clenches his fist into the night sky. Detached from the jubilation grape, the storm talent knocks twice on the Armenian coat of arms.

But who is the Bayern talent that in the long run even through the Lewandowski move to Barca might solve the storm problem that had arisen among the professionals?
Change from BVB to Bayern
Grant-Leon Ranos was born in Lower Saxony in 2003 to his Armenian father. Hence his first youth station at Hannover 96.
The then 15-year-old moved to the Bayern campus under the name Mamedova before Bavaria’s promise for the future decided on the surname Ranos. Ranos’ previous club for which the young Armenian international played in the 2017/18 season is piquant: Bayern’s archrival Borussia Dortmund.
Certainly a reason for the polarizing Ranos change from BVB to Munich – the newly opened Bavaria campus in the north of the Bavarian capital. The Armenian is probably one of the residents who has stayed at the German record champions’ youth academy for the longest.

Ranos convinced ex-Bayern coach Nagelsmann
In the past, the leap from the youth department to the men’s division gave a kink to one or the other promising football career. Not so with Ranos, who made 24 goals in 27 games in his debut season in the South Regional League.
“Grant has developed well this season in the Bavarian regional league,” said Holger Seitz, Bayern II coach, of his protégé.
In the Bavarian amateur derby between Bayern and Augsburg, the match winner bore the name Ranos for the first time, the 19-year-old turned an early deficit single-handedly before the break.
The recently sacked Bayern coach Julian Nagelsmann rewarded Ranos for his outstanding regional league season, in which he often had the youngsters train with Joshua Kimmich and Co.
Lewy comparison: Ranos significantly more flexible!
When comparing between Ranos and Ex-Bayern-Star Lewandowski It quickly becomes clear: the 1.80 meter man is less of a penalty area striker type than the Polish world star, but often lets himself fall onto the flanks from the center of the attack or is not set up as a central attacker at all.
Seitz enthused: “He’s our best goalscorer, but he’s also very valuable for the team as a preparer.”
As a left winger, Ranos scores every 144 minutes on average. For comparison: self World-class players like Bayern star Leroy Sané needs an average of ten minutes longer to score as a left winger.
Cooperation with Musiala agency
A good omen in the direction of a breakthrough among Bayern’s professionals is the consulting agency that Ranos works with.
