The newborn from Leica, the Sofort 2, has enriched the instant photography market. More than an instant camera, the Sofort 2 is also a photo printer, which is reminiscent of Fujifilm’s Instax Mini Evo.

Leica, the renowned German brand in the field of photography, will finally market its new instant camera: le Immediately 2. This camera bears striking similarities to Fujifilm’s Instax Mini Evo.
The Sofort 2 isn’t just an instant camera; it also serves as a photo printer. Indeed, it can expose photos on Instax Mini film and process images sent from a smartphone using a dedicated application available on iOS and Android. This two-way connectivity allows users to also transfer digital images taken with the Sofort 2 to their smartphones.

The device is equipped with a 3-inch screen on the back, displaying around 460,000 pixels, providing clear viewing of captured photos. The 1/5 inch, 4.9 megapixel CMOS sensor (2560 x 1920 pixels) is associated with a 24 mm lens (equivalent to 28 mm in 35 mm format) with an aperture of f/2.0.

It has internal storage that can hold up to 45 images and an SD memory card slot.
Inspired design
The design of the Sofort 2 is clearly inspired by the analog world. To print an image, the user must pull a lever, reminiscent of the tension lever on analog cameras. Furthermore, there is also a big similarity of this model with the Instax Mini Evo from Fujifilm.

Whether in terms of technical characteristics, button layout or the ten lens and film effects available, the two devices are very similar. The main distinction between them is price, construction materials, and design.
The price of the Sofort 2, set at 380 euros, is significantly higher than that of its direct competitor, the Instax Mini Evo, available for around 200 euros. For aficionados of the Leica brand, the additional cost might be justified. However, for other users, the Instax Mini Evo is a more affordable and equally capable alternative. The Leica Sofort 2 will be available for purchase from November 9, 2023.
