O Instagram confirmed to TechCrunch which is testing a new option for Reelswhich will allow users to change the text and/or audio of a video published by someone else when sharing it.

First noticed by leaker specialized in reverse engineering Alessandro Paluzzios “Spins”, as the new feature is called, can be activated by users right before publishing a Reels. According to Meta’s social network, the option is part of an internal test and has not yet been released to the public.

The idea behind “Spins” is that users can create trends (or trends, in plain Portuguese) based on video models published by other people. It would be possible, for example, to take a video of a pet doing something funny and change the caption or sound to change the context of the situation, adding a creative touch.

Apparently, the original author of the video would always be credited in a “Spin”, which would also help you reach new audiences. It’s not yet clear when (and if) Instagram intends to roll out this feature to all of its users.

If launched, this will be one of the few Reels tools that does not have an equivalent feature on TikTok — the social network from which Meta’s platform was clearly inspired. Whether this will be enough to bring more users from the Chinese platform to Instagram, however, only time will tell.
