In tests since February, the Broadcast Channels (Broadcast Channels) do Instagram will be released worldwide “in the coming weeks”, according to target. The feature is very reminiscent of another very similar function on Telegram and offers a space where creators can unilaterally send messages, take polls and send photos and videos, while channel members can only see the contents and react to them.

There will be a few ways to join a channel: when a new one is created, the followers of the creator will receive a notification; in addition, it will be possible to promote the channel through a sticker in Stories, which will be redirected through a link to enter the space.

This link to the channel can also be pinned to the creator’s profile or shared by members with friends, as the channels are public and can be found and read by everyone, including having a section of suggested channels next to the messages.

It will also be possible to control notifications related to new posts in the channels. By default, they will be sent to some of the members, and the creator can change it to all or none. People who join channels, in turn, can also mute alerts or turn them on. Each channel, remember, will be displayed in the inbox, in the same way as existing conversations.

New functions are already being added to Broadcast Channels. One of them has already been released: the one that allows the addition of collaborators, who will be able to publish messages and content on the channel with the creator of the space. Others include being able to post questions for channel members and adding a moderator to help manage the channel. Other features are also being tested, such as a new tab dedicated to channels.

Instagram also stressed that the channels and the content published on them are subject to the rules of the platform’s community, as well as the other areas of the social network. Thus, content that violates these rules will be removed, with specific tools to identify, verify and remove possible abuse.

The company also pointed out that there are already several channels with thousands of followers on India, with the resource in the process of reaching the rest of the world. At the Brazilsome channels have already been created, such as Sabrina Satoof Alok and content creators like Lucas Rangel e Joao Pedro Motta.
