Instagram plans feed based on Reels shared between users

O Instagram is developing a new feature called Blend. The idea is quite simple: the function creates a feed of recommendations for Reels for two users — based on the videos sent between them and their interests. Blends must be private (only members can see) and it is possible to leave the feed at any time.

The feature was discovered by the engineer Alessandro Paluzzi — which has already found other new features in tests on social networks. To the TechCrunchInstagram said that this is an internal prototype and that it is not being tested externally.

O #Instagram is working on Blend: recommendations for #Reels based on the reels you shared with each other and your reel interests. 👀
ℹ️ Private between the two. You can leave a Blend at any time.

It is worth noting the great similarity of this resource to another Blend: that of Spotify. The function of the music streaming service — which has existed for years — allows a playlist to be created that combines the musical tastes of two users, in addition to showing the compatibility between them.

In the case of Instagram Blend, it is not yet known whether the recommendations will be updated continuously or following a defined period. The idea is to maximize the discovery of new Reels and enable them to be carried out jointly, by using data on preferences to recommend videos to a pair of users.

As this is a feature under development, there is no information regarding when (or if) it will be made available to all users, especially considering that Instagram stated that Blend is still an internal prototype. In any case, if it is launched in the future, this new feature will certainly help increase Reels engagement and strengthen the Meta network’s competition in the face of TikTok.
