Once the perpetrators obtain the intimate images, they will threaten to distribute them if the victim does not comply with their requests.
Sextortion, which is now an increasingly common problem among teenage social media users, involves criminals creating fake profiles using photos of attractive teenagers. They then approached the victim and gradually engaged the victim in a more intimate conversation before sharing personal photos and encouraging the victim to do the same.
After the victim replies with a private photo, the perpetrator will blackmail them with the threat of sharing the photo with the victim’s contacts. Perpetrators often ask victims to send more explicit photos or videos as a condition so that the photos are not leaked.
