Instagram is gaining a new feature that will compete with Linktree, Beacons and other services that are used to store various links in the “bio” of the user’s profile. The company announced that it will now allow its users to add up to 5 links in the “Bio” of their profiles, making it possible to direct their followers to extra content, stores, institutional sites, among others.
Linktree’s “Kingdom” Threatened by New Instagram Feature
Platforms like Linktree and others arose due to the lack of support from other platforms for ways to display external links so that people might access other types of content or other services. As social networks prefer to keep people inside their apps, most chose to ignore this need. An example of this is TikTok, which limits clickable links in the “Bio” of profiles, allowing only business account users to enter something, making sharing sites more difficult for content creators.
It’s likely that Instagram will now see the profile links feature as a competitive advantage compared to other apps like, say, TikTok. To use the new functionality, simply select the “edit profile” option, tap “links” and finally select “add external link”.
Launch and availability
According to Instagram, the new feature of adding multiple links in the “bio” of profiles will be available to everyone, including business accounts and content creators.
