GIFs aren’t dead yet. Instagram is updating them and allowing their use in the comments section.
This is good news for GIF lovers. Animated images are popping up in Instagram’s comments section. It was Adam Mosseri, the boss of the social network, who announced the news during a discussion with Mark Zuckerberg, on his Instagram distribution channel.
Admittedly, this is a small feature, nevertheless the update is very real. Until now, it was indeed impossible to introduce an image in the comments. The use of GIFs is only authorized in private messages and Stories.
It remains to be seen whether Instagram users will take advantage of the feature, who have been accustomed to simple text comments for many years. In addition, Instagram updates very, even too late. Facebook and Twitter, among others, have granted this possibility for a long time. Worse still, the GIF suffers from a lack of popularity among younger generations…
In the meantime, Adam Mosseri is still very proud of this progress and took advantage of the interview to make other announcements. Among which, the implementation of the lyrics in Reels. Kind of like karaoke. The functionality is currently in the test phase, we will have to wait a little longer before knowing more.
