Should we worry about another cyclone in Cuba?
Recently, the Cuban meteorologist Elier Pila Fariñas assured in the red social X that “there is no cyclone in formation that threatens the Caribbean or Cuba.”
From the local station CMKX Radio Bayamo they replied: “he had to explain his statement, because in reality in the Caribbean area there is a meteorological phenomenon. The arguments are essential for the population to be well informed.”
In this regard, Pila Fariñas specified: “that area marked in yellow in the Atlantic (not in the Caribbean), with a very low probability (only 10%) of becoming a cyclone does not have the conditions to develop, hence the very low value. . Of course, it will rain in the east and in the center of Cuba.”

**Interview with Elier Pila Fariñas, Meteorologist at INSMET**
**Interviewer:** Thank you for joining us today, Elier. Let’s start with the current weather forecast for Cuba. Can you tell us what people can expect on November 10th?
**Elier Pila Fariñas:** Certainly! Today, we see variable weather across the island. There will be cloudy conditions along the northern coast from Camagüey to Guantánamo, with showers expected in the afternoon. the eastern half of Cuba will experience more rain, while the rest of the country sees mostly clear skies. Maximum temperatures will range from 29 to 32 degrees Celsius, cooling down a bit at night.
**Interviewer:** That sounds manageable for most people. However, there’s always concern when it comes to cyclones. Should residents be worried about a potential cyclone forming in the Caribbean or near Cuba?
**Elier Pila Fariñas:** No, there is currently no cyclone in formation that poses a threat to the Caribbean or Cuba. While there is a meteorological phenomenon in the Atlantic marked with a very low probability—about 10%—of developing into a cyclone, it doesn’t have the necessary conditions to escalate. So, while some rain is expected, there’s no reason for alarm regarding cyclones.
**Interviewer:** That’s reassuring to hear. The public often has questions about these meteorological predictions. Why is it important for experts like you to clarify these issues?
**Elier Pila Fariñas:** It’s crucial to keep the population informed and educated about weather patterns and potential threats. Misinformation can lead to unnecessary panic.
