Sergio George reveals what Marc Anthony told him regarding his time in Peru | Carlos Orozco. Youtube
“Peru failed me,” commented Sergio George in a revealing interview with Carlos Orozco. The American producer, known for working with music greats such as Marc Anthony, Thalía, Tito Nieves and Servando Florentino, recalled the artists’ reaction when he announced to them that he would make music in Peru with Yahaira Plasencia.
At first, Sergio George explained that he made the decision to come because he wanted salsa to re-emerge in our country, taking the success of J Balvin as an example. “For me he was the person responsible for the rebirth of reggaeton because everyone had forgotten it. The big ones went electronic,” he said.
“I wanted to recreate that in salsa. I saw that there was a movement in the audience here and there were young people on the stage. I thought that suddenly what happened with reggaeton in Medellín might happen with salsa, that’s why I came. But Peru failed me,” highlighted the former producer of Yahaira Plasencia.

According to Sergio George, his experience in Peru was not entirely pleasant from the first press conference, in which he announced that he would work with Yahaira Plasencia. “They asked me who paid me, if Farfán paid me (…) They had me up to here with Farfán, I started to get upset because it is my ticket. It was my vision. The media was looking for gossip,” he reported.
The American producer indicated that he felt disappointed when he was romantically linked to Yahaira Plasencia, when his only goal was for the salsa singer, to whom he gave the song “Y le dice no”, to be supported by his own compatriots.
Sergio George stopped working with Yahaira Plasencia following four years.
“The Peruvians themselves began to criticize me, saying that I was in love with her and questioning why I was here. They didn’t want me in the country. I was there to tell the Peruvian that we are all moving forward, that we are all together, brotherhood, unity. But they told me to get out, why was I here,” she recalled with regret.
Among all the negatives, Sergio George recognized that his time in Peru helped him grow professionally. “This country prepared me for the bigger world. Since I had fights all day, I had to defend myself in Spanish, even though it was not my language. I learned a lot. “It was a pleasant experience, although it was negative and still is,” he said.
After telling his experience in our country, Sergio George was quite sincere when revealing what his loved ones, including Marc Anthony, told him when they saw him making music in Peru: “What the hell are you doing there?”
“They told me: ‘Get out of this mess, no one sees Peru with good eyes.’ That was my fear, attracting other investors. I am not afraid of discrediting myself with this because they know me there, they know what I am. On the contrary, they told me: ‘Those people are crazy, what’s wrong with them?’ So, who is going to want to invest here? ”She stated.

As a reflection, Sergio George emphasized that it will take “a good time” for international businessmen to bet on Peruvian talent. “I don’t see it with salsa, that’s already happened, it must be with urban music. If it happens, it will have to be something pop mixed with urban. Cumbia has always been there, but that stays local,” he said.
