As I pedal my bike towards the office this morning, trying in vain to find the right balance between the cool wind of speed and the heat generated by the effort, a caravan of black electric limousines passes me at full speed, all flashing lights blue engaged. The Icelandic, Norwegian and Liechtenstein pennants flap on the front fenders, confirming what the diplomatic plaques have already told me: the official delegations of our EEA colleagues are on their way to the big annual meeting with the EU.

Undoubtedly, our friends in the European Commission will ask us to increase our contribution aimed at reducing social and economic disparities on the continent. Since 1992, we have already paid them more than 5 billion francs, but it will probably not stop there. And if Iceland, Norway and Liechtenstein will theoretically be in solidarity with us and resist a little, at least for form, the outcome is hardly in doubt: we will still have to spit in the basin.
