In his own words, he no longer has to mince his words, now lives according to a sentence from Heinrich Heine’s poem “Doctrine”: Beat the drum and fear not. “And otherwise I’m more in such a mode of Angela Merkel – feel-good appointments. I do what I enjoy,” says the dance sport coach and former “Dancing Stars” judge Dirk Heidemann in the KURIER Talk.

From 2017 to 2020 he sat at the jury desk, but was then “very unfriendly farewell”. His words, which he still has left for the ORF show, are also not very friendly. “It’s now totally unspectacular, unglamorous, boring and bordering on tacky,” he says.
“The jury is boring and poorly dressed, the camera work is a disaster.” He is particularly critical of the use of the juror Maria Angelini-Santner and that she is also dubbed the Viennese Waltz World Champion on ORF. “Due to the lack of celebrities in dance sport, they are now trying to make these dance school owners world champions,” he says.

As an explanation: Maria Angelini-Santner won in 2011 with her brother Christoph a competition organized by a private company, advertised as the “Viennese Waltz World Championship”. This was not organized by any recognized dance sport association.
According to Heidemann, “Dancing Stars” might use “a little more wit, more charm, more glamor”. Also that Karina Sarkissova, although he only switched from the jury desk to the floor for one show in the last season due to injuries, he finds it “outrageous”. But he also felt sorry for her and he agrees that her rating for the Quickstep was “too bad”.

But he sees the commitment of the dancers positively Daniel Campisi, Florian Gschaider and especially Dimitar Stefanin. “Dimitar is great! He was born for higher things. He might play Fred Astaire in a movie, he’s great.”
Heidemann’s Dancing Stars conclusion: “Fake TV! I think it’s a bit annoying that the Austrians put up with that,” he says. “When I see something, whether it’s political, whether it’s socially critical, whether it’s regarding fashion or television – I have to comment on it.”
How and when “Dancing Stars” will continue is still in the stars, the program planning for the fall has not yet been made, according to the ORF.

In any case, Heidemann himself still has enough to do, as he says. “I’m going to Dresden now and then I’ll be in Taiwan for three weeks. In winter I want to do a real tour in America: Canada, New York, Connecticut, Toronto, Los Angeles and that’s enough. Feel-good appointments like Angela Merkel.”
