The Kremlin chief prefers to travel by train: Vladimir Putin is known to prefer the train to the plane. Now internal leaked documents provide insights into the travel habits of Russian presidents.
So far, people have only known regarding Putin’s special train from the outside, but now the London Dossier Center, the research office of Kremlin critic Mikhail Khodorkovsky, has published pictures and plans from inside the special train. According to the documents, the train was renovated for 6.8 million rubles, in addition to a gym and a beauty salon, it should now even contain a Turkish bath, called a hammam.
Between ventilator and skin rejuvenation
In addition to weights and equipment, the fitness studio should also have a weight bench, a step platform and an exercise mat. The beauty salon is said to be right next to it and has special equipment for skin rejuvenation using high-frequency waves or vacuum cleaning, as well as medical equipment such as a defibrillator, a respiratory suction device or a respirator. Like the previous one Members of the Presidential Guard Gleb Karakulov reported in late April, Putin is known to be very concerned regarding his health.
A company for special railway requests
But where do the documents come from? The German news magazine «SPIEGEL» according to them they belong to the company Zirkon Service. The same was launched in 1994 by employees of the aerospace industry. The company changed from a supplier of laboratory wagons to a specialist for individual railway requests – also for the requests of Kremlin boss Putin.
The Dossier Center evaluated the documents together with a group of international media, including CNN and the Süddeutsche Zeitung. A summary is on the common site to find.
Also work on weekends and public holidays
In March 2017, the head of Russian railways, Oleg Belozerov, is said to have personally commissioned the construction of the train. Belozerov and his deputies were also responsible for the progress of the work.
Allegedly, workers were busy seven days a week and even on public holidays with the conversion of the train, sometimes even working in three shifts.
Three locomotives pull the special train
Three locomotives pull the train in case of a breakdown. Only the communication antennas, which are attached to the roofs, indicate the special nature of the wagons. Seen from the outside, Putin’s means of transport is hardly noticeable compared to “normal” trains, it is also painted red and gray.
You can’t see the armored walls, of course. According to the documents, they should protect once morest Kalashnikov assault rifles and sniper rifles even in sub-zero temperatures. This applies at least to the areas of security and escort personnel. The documents do not reveal to what extent Putin’s personal sections are secure.
