The co-founder of Studio Ghibli, Toshio Suzukirevealed that the co-founder and director Hayao Miyazaki He is avoiding public appearances due to the embarrassment caused by his retirement announcements, which he ultimately did not follow through with.

His return to film direction earned him, following 8 years of work, an award Oscar for Best Animated Film for The Boy and the Heron, an award that he did not even show up to receive.

As reported OriconSuzuki explained that following that he saw a shy but happy Miyazaki, who would have explained to him that “As a son of Japan, I shouldn’t show my happy face.”

Suzuki clarified despite them that Miyazaki “was smiling. He was completely happy. Everybody is happy. He was excited. He tried very hard to suppress his feelings, saying that he doesn’t care, but I got the feeling that he wanted it very much. I was still nervous. I said, ‘Congratulations,’ and he said, ‘Same here.'”

Likewise, regarding the low visibility to which the legendary director is exposing himself, he maintained that “when he says: ‘I will not show myself to the world anymore’, I think that is what he truly feels. He doesn’t want to repeat the nonsense of explaining and then lying. So I will take care of that part (public relations) myself.”
