South Korean authorities have found four of a total of nine crew members (ABK) who were missing in the sinking fishing boat incident in the South Yeosu Sea on Sunday (10/3). The rest have not been found.
Of the four people, three were crew members from Indonesia or Indonesian citizens (WNI) and one was a crew member from South Korea. All four were declared dead.
“The search process is still being carried out by the Korean Coast Guard (KCG) for five other crew members, consisting of four Indonesian crew members and one South Korean crew member,” said the Director of Protection for Indonesian Citizens and Indonesian Legal Entities (PWNI and BHI) at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Judha Nugraha, in a written statement on Sunday. “The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has succeeded in contacting all the families of seven Indonesian crew members to provide updates on the process of searching for and handling the bodies,” he concluded.
Quoting from Yonhap News Agencythe 20 ton fishing boat capsized in waters regarding 68 kilometers south of an island in Tongyeong, South Gyeongsang Province, on Saturday (9/3) at 06:29 local time.
South Korean officials said 12 Coast Guard patrol boats, four from the Navy and six helicopters were carrying out search operations at the incident site.
Authorities said they found no signs that the ship had hit another ship or hit a rock. The cause of the capsizing of the ship is not yet known. (Yonhap/Z-10)
