As one of the institutions selected in the eMpowering Youth Across ASEAN (EYAA) Cohort 3 program, Insan Bumi Mandiri together with the ASEAN Foundation continue to move to empower communities in remote areas, especially in East Nusa Tenggara (NTT).
Currently, empowerment is focused on weaving mothers in Alor. Through the Tenun.in program, Insan Bumi Mandiri carries out a series of training and also provides loans for business capital for woven fabric MSMEs.
This loan was funded by the Asean Foundation, Maybank, and the Maybank Foundation as donors. Meanwhile, distribution was handed over to the Alor weavers’ savings and loans cooperative which has been established for more than a year.
One of the loan recipients who is also the head of the Moru Weavers group, Mama Rahima, admitted that she was grateful for the assistance given to the Alor weavers group.
“Mama is happy to be given this trust. Long before this, all members already had a commitment and agreement regarding loans. “The refund is guaranteed 100%,” said Mama Rahima.
Apart from training and providing capital, the Asean Foundation also funds the renovation of weaving centers in areas where the buildings are no longer suitable. Previously, the center was only covered by walls made of tarpaulin. In fact, the existing tarpaulin was torn and the wood supporting the building looked brittle.
Now the weaving center has a building that is more sturdy and comfortable to live in. The hope is that this place can increase productivity and encourage weavers to continue working.
Bumi Mandiri people also invite all levels of society to support programs like Tenun.in. Information regarding Tenun.in or other empowerment programs from Insan Bumi Mandiri can be accessed via the website www.insanbumimandiri.org or Instagram @insanbumimandiri.
