Thiruvananthapuram: Former Defense Minister AK Antony says that INS Vikrant is an honor for Kerala. The UPA government had given permission to build one more aircraft carrier at the Cochin Shipyard. Hope this will be implemented. Anthony Thiruvananthapuram said that INS Vikrant will be able to overcome the challenge posed by Pakistan and China and he is proud to have started the construction of the ship.

the warrior
The new ship is also named Vikrant as a tribute to India’s first aircraft carrier, INS Vikrant, which played a crucial role in the 1971 Indo-Pak war. The name Vikrant means warrior. Vikrantham will now be the brave warrior of the country on the battlefields.
Made in India
Vikrant is also becoming an example of Atmanirbhar Bharat. Because Vikrant is a fully indigenously built aircraft carrier in India. 76 percent of the ship’s construction is made using Indian-made materials. Around 14,000 workers gave birth to Vikrant. With the arrival of INS Vikrant, India has become the sixth country in the world to indigenously build an aircraft carrier.
cost
This ship has been built in Kochi Shipyard at a cost of Rs 23000 crore. The project was approved by the Union Cabinet in 2002. Signing agreement with Kochi Shipyard in 2007. Construction started in 2009. Vikrant made his debut in 2013. Sea trials began in August 2021. Vikrant has passed the Phase 4 sea trials and was handed over to the Navy in July 2022.
Size
The length of the ship is 860 feet. The height is 193 feet. Vikrant is 262 meters long, 62 meters wide and 59 meters high. Weight 45000 tons. 30 aircraft can be kept on board at the same time. Vikrant can travel 14,000 km non-stop. Vikrant can carry 10 helicopters and 20 fighter jets. Vikrant will have MiG-29 and Rafale fighter jets. Kamov 30 and MH 60 helicopters will also be used in this.
Runways
There are three large runways for fighter jets to take off and land. The planes will take off from two runways of 203 and 141 meters. 190 meter runway is used for landing. Vikrant has a facility to hang 34 aircrafts and a facility for maintenance of airplanes and helicopters. Control Vikrant with 1800 crew members.
Super Specialty Hospital
Vikrant has a state-of-the-art multi-specialty hospital. And there are many systems like a 24-hour huge kitchen, captain’s bridge, air traffic control. The ship will produce 400,000 liters of fresh water daily. Similarly, Vikrant’s massive 24-hour kitchen can prepare 1,000 chapatis and idlis per hour. There will be separate accommodation for women in Vikrant. Vikrant also has a state-of-the-art waste treatment plant.
