Political observer and Director of Lingkar Civil Indonesia (Lima), Ray Rangkuti, said that in the midst of the 2024 Presidential Election Results Dispute (PHPU) trial at the Constitutional Court (MK), the right to inquiry must continue to be rolled out in order to uncover allegations of election fraud.
Ray said the right to inquiry should not be confused with impeaching the president. According to him, it would be better to have the right of inquiry rolled out to find out whether or not there was abuse of power by the president, politicization of social assistance, and mobilization of state apparatus in the implementation of the 2024 presidential election.
“If it is not proven, the election winner will be more legitimate and the president will be free from assumptions regarding using power. If it is proven, this will be capital for a comprehensive evaluation,” said Ray in his statement, Monday (1/4).
According to him, a number of political parties have not implemented the right to inquiry for a number of reasons, such as, there is still waiting between political parties, and there is a pragmatic attitude among political party elites.
For this reason, he encouraged political parties that have issued statements supporting the right to inquiry to be held accountable if they do not fulfill this promise. He hopes that political parties will be more responsive to the aspirations of the people and not only prioritize the interests of their party elites.
“So political parties have to prove what they are planning,” said Ray.
