Eight years ago, several buildings on rue Neuve, in Huy, collapsed. Fortunately, without injuries but with a gaping “hole” which, if it disfigures this shopping street of the Mosan city, has since been integrated by the Hutois. We pass in front of it without seeing it anymore… During these eight years, the City of Huy tried to find a solution. Who went through the redemption of the nine plots concerned; those of the hole but also the ancillary buildings which have been destabilized (the former Zeeman, Prémaman and Iguana).
New stage this Thursday, May 29, 2023 in the reconstruction of this part of rue Neuve: the Régie foncière hutoise, which controls the land, and the intermunicipal company L’Immobilière publique de Seraing have just signed the act which allows the rights of accession necessary for the reconstruction of rue Neuve. The Régie foncière had bought all the land and buildings still standing, affected by the collapse.
It now remains to demolish, clean up the site and then rebuild. And it will be the Public Real Estate that will take care of this mission. “The Intercommunale will launch a call for projects from interested promoters with conditionsexplains acting mayor Éric Dosogne. We fixed the emphyteusis for a maximum of 40 years. What does the city want? If the project is not yet defined, the college wishes in any case of the trade on the ground floor and apartments on the floors. “We have acquired access via rue de la Couronne. We are therefore also aiming for private parking at the rear for the apartments. It will therefore not be public parking.” To meet the objectives set, the Intercommunale will therefore provide its rights to a private party who will be selected on the basis of objective criteria for the development of the entire site.
When will construction start? “It’s hard to set a dateadds the burgomaster ff, but not before early 2025. By the time the Intercommunale launches the procedure, awards the contract… Then the promoter will have to apply for an urban planning permit. So there are still a few steps.”
Eight years following the collapse, it is time for Rue Neuve to forget regarding this hole, and the collapse associated with it. “That’s a good thing. And we mightn’t have gone faster…”
