In 2018, the healthcare establishment welcomed 10,000 patients per year. Today it receives 14,000. Between research, care and awareness, the Oncopôle of Toulouse is facing the increase in the number of cancers in the population. It also receives more and more patients from medical deserts.
There are more and more cancers in our society. The cause is our environment and the general aging of the population.
Rapid detection of cancers is one of the most effective ways to achieve cure: “The earlier we detect cancer, the more chance we have of treating it.explains Lilian Baric, director of care at Oncopole. This year we launched an awareness campaign on ENT cancers, on the networks, on television and among general practitioners. These are very simple cancers to detect and are much better treated if they are detected in time.”
Over the past twenty years, patient care has evolved; we treat cancer more exclusively but also the general well-being of the patient.

“The Oncopole of Toulouse was a pioneer in this field. The observation was simple, we fight cancer better with good support. Medications have also improved and patients today live longer with treatment. We must therefore all the more supportive of long treatments.”
With direct access to the research center, attached to the Oncopole, patients have easier access to new treatments.”The research center has direct access to care, patients have access to innovative therapies. It’s a real plus for them. On the research side, we are working a lot on cancer vaccines. The director of the establishment, Professor Jean-Pierre Delord, makes it a priority. We are also innovative in immunotherapy, that is to say a specific treatment which will have much less negative effects on the body than radiotherapy or chemotherapy.”
