Innovations in surgery in the emergency area of ​​the Hospital de Clínicas are highlighted

Asuncion, IP Agency.- On the occasion of the “II Surgical Emergencies Conference”, updates in the field of surgery in surgical emergencies are addressed with professionals from different pathologies of the Faculty of Medical Sciences of the UNA – Hospital de Clínicas.

The activities began on Thursday and end on Friday, August 2, with theoretical lectures, simulation workshops and surgeries focused on emergency surgical pathologies. Teachers and specialists from the Emergency Services, Kinesiology and Physiotherapy, Surgical Instrumentation and Podiatry will participate.

The sessions are organized by the Adult Emergency Department of the FCM-UNA, Hospital de Clínicas.

The Director General of Healthcare, Prof. Dr. Jorge Giubi, highlighted the importance of the academic day at FCMUNA, to address the updates in the field of surgery, so that the services are protocolized to provide the best care. “We know that medicine is constantly updating, so this type of day is essential to foster camaraderie and above all to access the new innovations in the various types of surgical techniques and to adapt to the new developments.”

For his part, the Dean of the UNA Faculty of Sciences, Mg. Prof. Dr. Osmar Cuenca Torres, said that as a teacher and surgeon he is pleased with the holding of these surgical emergency sessions, considering that the Hospital de Clínicas is a teaching hospital, where surgeons are trained. “Part of the training of surgeons is based on their performance in surgical emergencies, whether here or wherever they work, and education is very important, consolidating and accompanying residents, establishing ongoing training.”

The workshops will cover intestinal suturing, ostomies, mechanical suturing, skin suturing, wall closure, pleural drainage tube placement, pulmonary suturing, tracheostomy, basic ultrasound, central venous access by ultrasound, laparoscopy and CPR.

In addition to lectures, there will be workshops on suturing and other surgical interventions, as well as competitions between students of the participating courses and medical residents.
