TV magazine “Land and People” on Saturday, January 27, 2024, at 4:30 p.m. on ORF 2

St. Pölten (OTS) – Using the example of the Warth agricultural college in the Buckligen Welt in Lower Austria, “Land and People” shows how practical, versatile and innovative agricultural training can be. The school is taking innovative approaches with its ongoing projects to improve animal welfare, research into old cattle breeds and natural beekeeping. One focus, for example, is green care training, with topics such as nutrition, climate change, biodiversity and nature conservation. In practice-oriented lessons, students learn everything regarding animal breeding, meat processing, beekeeping, agriculture and forestry, metalworking, but also social care professions.

Further topics from “Land and People” on January 27th:

*From Rauchstube and winter apples
“Land and People” is traveling in the eastern Styrian hills in the Weiz district, where almost 80 percent of all Austrian apples grow. We meet an inventive apple farmer and old smokehouses where “Häfennigl”, a traditional layered pastry, is made from winter apples.

*Houses tell a story
The cultural association of the border town of Mauthen at the foot of the Plöcken Pass, which has always connected Carinthia and Italy, makes history come alive on historical tours. 50 historically recorded houses bear witness to the social and cultural life, crafts and personalities of past centuries.

*Experience the forest
How does a forest work, how do you behave in nature and why do forests need snow in winter? Forest educators across Austria answer these questions. In Illmitz in Burgenland we accompanied them as they worked in nature.

*Bagpipes as a craft
Thomas Rezanka from Steyr is the only bagpipe maker in Upper Austria. He makes his instruments by hand from fine woods and fine leather.
