“Injury on Espoo Footbridge: 27 Children Hurt in Finland Accident”

At least twenty-seven people, mainly children, were injured Thursday, May 11, in Finland in the collapse of a temporary footbridge near Helsinki, which caused them to fall several meters, announced the relief.

“Twenty-seven young people, most of them minors, were injured to varying degrees” during the fall of this construction footbridge located in Espoo, in the suburbs of the capital, said the Finnish emergency services in a press release.

The incident took place around 9:20 a.m. (8:20 a.m. in Paris). According to images broadcast by the Finnish media, the wooden planks of the footbridge broke under the weight of the young people, causing them to fall regarding 4 to 5 meters below.

The injured were mostly part of a school group, explained the services of the Helsinki University Hospital (HUS). “There are a total of 27 injured, of whom 24 were taken to hospital”but their lives are not in danger, they specified on Twitter.

According to Finnish media, it is essentially a class, corresponding to pupils of around 14 years old, who were on their way to a nearby museum.
