On Tuesday, Mergim Berisha injured his knee during training at TSG Hoffenheim without any opposition – seriously, as it turned out. The 25-year-old, who came to the Kraichgauers from FC Augsburg in the summer, has torn a cruciate ligament, as the club announced on Friday.

“In-depth investigations have confirmed the suspicion that Mergim Berisha suffered a torn cruciate ligament in his right knee during training,” said Hoffenheim. “He will now have to undergo an operation and be sidelined for the next few months.”

For Pirmin Schwegler, “it’s bitter news. Mergim has gotten better and better recently and has shown that he can be a strong option for our offensive,” explained the head of professional football at TSG.

Berisha has played 31 Bundesliga games so far, eight of them in the current season for Hoffenheim. At TSG, the striker, who has already made two appearances for the German national team, is still waiting for his first goal and will now have to do so for even longer.

Meeting with the former club is canceled

Next Saturday (3:30 p.m., LIVE! on kicker) Berisha would have appeared with his new club for the first time at his former club FC Augsburg, for whom he played the first two games of the season before moving to TSG.
