The Golden State Warriors appear to have legitimate hopes for comebacks from injured Gary Payton II, Otto Porter Jr. and Andre Iguodala. However, it is still unclear who will be enough for Game 1 of the NBA Finals.
Warriors coach Steve Kerr said on Wednesday that all three will play before the opening match of the finals on Friday night (live from 3 a.m.). DAZN) officially listed as “questionable”. However, all three attended the Dubs’ full practice session on Wednesday – for the first time since their respective injuries.
Payton II (6.1 points and 3.0 rebounds in the playoffs) had been sidelined since Game 2 of the Conference Semifinals after breaking his left elbow after a hard foul by Dillon Brooks. Because of his defense, he could become an important role player in the series against Boston.
“There are a few things I still have to check off,” said the 29-year-old on Tuesday. “I’m taking it day by day and hoping for the best. I’m starting to feel normal again. But I’m still not me again.”
Porter Jr. (5.5 points and 4.1 rebounds) missed the last two and a half games of the Conference Finals against Dallas with a left foot problem. However, he was confident about a commitment to the finals. He feels good and his participation in the training is a good sign.
Meanwhile, Andre Iguodala was less optimistic. After a season plagued by injuries, his ultimate goal was “to end the season on two feet. Then it will be a successful season.” The 38-year-old has missed almost all of the postseason apart from three first-round appearances, and has missed 31 of the last 37 regular-season games. Neck problems in particular bother him.
