Initiation, options, specialties... Engineering schools and universities support the rise of quantum computing

Jean-Sébastien Kersaint Tournebize admits it half-heartedly: in February he joined the first class of Quantum, Epita’s new major focused on quantum technologies, even though the subject had only interested him for a few months. “I sought to find out more when physicist Alain Aspect received a Nobel Prize for his research on quantum entanglement, says this mathematics enthusiast. Since then, I have become aware of the challenge that this discipline represents, which will surely make it possible to resolve problems dating back several decades.”

French engineering schools have understood that they cannot ignore the renewed interest that quantum technologies are arousing today. Polytechnique, CentraleSupélec, Télécom Paris… Many of them already offer introductory courses, options, or even real specializations. “The recent rise in power of French start-ups in the sector proves that everything is accelerating. It is necessary to anticipate growing skills needs,” explains Axel Ferrazzini, head of the Quantum major at the private engineering school, which he presents as “the most ambitious training in Europe”.
