Initiates IDB mission focused on the recovery of Lake Ypacaraí

Asuncion, IP Agency.- This Tuesday, the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) mission officially began, with a view to outlining the project for the sanitation of the Ypacaraí lake basin within the framework of the IDB-Clima funds.

The first working session, which included the participation of the IDB, the Ministry of Public Works and Communications (MOPC), the Ministry of Economy and Finance (MEF) and the Ministry of Environment and Sustainable Development (Mades), addressed a review of the objectives, background of the problems of the Ypacaraí lake basin, the circular economy plan and the sanitation plan, as well as investment needs.

In the afternoon, the second session will address alternative technical solutions, socio-environmental considerations and needs related to complementary studies on climate change.

As well as economic aspects, technical issues, social and environmental impact. Representatives of the MOPC, IDB, Mades and the National Environmental Sanitation Service (Senasa) participated in this meeting.

Work days will continue during the week

The IDB mission’s activities will extend throughout the week, with field visits and roundtable discussions with the different institutions involved, according to the MOPC report.

The Ypacaraí Lake basin sanitation project is the responsibility of the Drinking Water and Sanitation Directorate (Dapsan) of the MOPC, which works in coordination with the National Directorate for the Management and Handling of Lake Ypacaraí (Dinalaypa) and other agencies to achieve the objectives set.

It is worth noting that last December, the Government and the IDB had marked a milestone in the fight against climate change by signing a momentous agreement during the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP-28) in Dubai.

This agreement, focused on the climate agenda, positions Paraguay as one of the first countries in the innovative BID-Clima program, which in our case contemplates the recovery of this natural heritage of all Paraguayans.
