Boxing gave Colombia new places for the Paris 2024 Games this Monday, at the Pre-Olympic World Championships being held in Italy.

The national delegation, which already included Angie Valdés, Valeria Arboleda and Yeni Arias, who qualified for the Pan American Games in Santiago, Chile, sealed new tickets from boxing to travel to France.

Ingrit Valencia and Yilmar González were the two boxers who got the new spots for a total of five Colombian boxers for Paris 2024.

Ingrit Valencia, for the third time at the Olympics

The experienced Ingrit Valencia, in the 50 kilogram category, was the first to confirm her Olympic quota for Paris 2024 this Monday, following victory in her decisive battle.

The Colombian, who knows what it is like to be runner-up in the world, will play in her third Olympic Games, following beating Natalia Kuczewska of Poland by unanimous decision. The Colombian thus advanced to the semifinals, an instance with which she already guaranteed her place in the Olympic event.

It is worth remembering that the Caucana is an important card for Colombia in Paris, since in the past, at the Rio 2016 Games, Valencia was a bronze medalist in the women’s flyweight.

Yilmar González will be in Paris 2024

Yilmar González was the second Colombian to get a place in the Olympic Games this Monday, in the Pre-Olympic Games in Italy.

The boxer got ticket number 39 to Paris 2024, following beating the Chinese Lyu Ping in the quarterfinals of the tournament.

González is the first Colombian male boxer to qualify for the next Olympic Games.

Yuberjen Martínez did not make it to the semifinals and will have to look for his ticket to Paris in the next Pre-Olympic, which will be in Bangkok (Thailand) from May 26 to June 2.

The 18 players of the Colombian women’s team will also be in the Olympics; the athlete Lorena Arenas, the current Olympic runner-up in the 20 kilometer walk; the gymnast Luisa Blanco, who has just achieved a perfect score in vault in the USA this week, and Flor Ruiz, who won gold in the javelin throw at the Santiago 2023 Pan American Games.
