The director of the IV Festival of Symphony Orchestras and Children and Youth Chamber Ensembles (Fosica) 2022 tells what are the main novelties of this meeting, which will be held in Bogotá from April 23 to 30.
Why is music important in the lives of children and young people?
It should be present during all cycles of school education, not only because it creates equality in the vocational identification of students, but also because it is a valuable tool to enhance and stimulate creativity, intelligence, socio-affective, psychomotor and emotional skills.

What is the Fosica’s mission?
The Festival of Symphony Orchestras and Chamber Ensembles for Children and Youth (Fosica) seeks to contribute to raising awareness of the importance of music in childhood, to motivate learning processes and social skills.
How many editions of the Festival have been held and what do you consider to have been the most important achievement?
Throughout the three editions of the Festival, around 37 groups belonging to secretariats of culture, public and private schools in Bogotá and surrounding municipalities have participated. Likewise, it has had the participation of musical ensembles from Argentina and professionals from Spain, Ukraine, Austria, the Dominican Republic and Italy.

Why is this Festival a benchmark in its range?
Fosica is established as a benchmark of what is happening at the educational level in the field of music by promoting spaces for expression, integration, visibility and recognition of outstanding musical processes at a national and global level.
What activities prior to the Festival have been developed?
At this time we are in the process of selecting the groups that registered for free in categories such as Symphonic Orchestras and Symphonic Bands. In addition, bowed string and wind chamber groups, in which the wind instrumentalists of the selected groups will have the opportunity to receive master classes with teachers of great universal experience.

Tell us what is special regarding this year’s edition and when will it take place?
The fourth edition of the Festival will be held from April 23 to 30. This event is possible thanks to the support of the Ministry of Culture and the alliances made with the Jorge Tadeo Lozano University, the Colón Theater and the University School of Music of the Catholic University of Salta (Argentina). As for special activities, we will have, for example, on April 23, a spontaneous concert with the Colectivo Teatrofonía and Ensemble Musamerata, in the Fabio Lozano Auditorium, of the Jorge Tadeo Lozano University. In addition, in the same place, we will have a concert of children’s and youth groups, on April 26, 29 and 30, with free admission until full capacity is reached.
What is the goal of the Festival in a few years, what is the big dream?
To be an artistic and pedagogical proposal recognized and positioned at the national level for its contributions in resignifying the value of music in the development of capacities in the childhood stage, and for the promotion and dissemination of outstanding musical proposals in the five continents.

What will be the closing activity of the Festival?
For the closing we will have the concert of children’s and youth symphonic groups with the most outstanding musical processes of Bogotá and surrounding municipalities, in the iconic Fabio Lozano Auditorium. It will be free entry until full capacity.
