Norwegian Jakob Ingebrigtsen won the European 5000m title in Munich. This is his second continental title following 2018, a month following his world title in Eugene.
Ingebrigtsen won in 13’21”13, ahead of Spaniard Mohamed Katir (13’22”98) and Italian Yemaneberhan Crippa (13’24”83).
The Norwegian continues to add to his list. At only 21, he is now a triple European champion (1500 and 5000m in 2018), Olympic champion in the 1500m in 2021 in Tokyo, and world champion in the 5000m in Eugene last month. He is also aligned with the 1500m in Munich, where he will be the big favorite on Thursday in the final.
After a race disputed at an irregular pace, Ingebrigtsen gradually accelerated in the last three laps, making his competitors give in one by one, until Katir was finally worn down in the final stretch, the last to resist him.
A year following his Olympic title, the Italian Marcell Jacobs became European champion in the 100m. It’s a nice comeback for the one who had to give up on injury at the world championships in Eugene. Jacobs won in 9”95 ahead of two Britons: defending champion Zharnel Hugues (9”99) and Jeremiah Azu (10”13).
Very good performance at the men’s length for Mitiadis Tentoglou. The Greek Olympic champion, 2nd at the Worlds, flew to 8m52 to retain his European title. He took over the world best performance of the year from Simon Ehammer who had managed 8m45 earlier in the season.
A njoter to finish the sixth continental title of the Croatian Sandra Perkovic in women’s disc. Crowned for the first time in Barcelona in 2010, Perkovic threw at 67m95, 8 centimeters better than the German Kristin Pudenz. Bronze went to another German, Claudine Vita.
