Infrastructure: The Foundation for Indonesia‘s Sustainable Future
Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development, Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY), emphasized the crucial role of infrastructure in propelling Indonesia towards a sustainable future. Speaking on the sidelines of the Economic & Capital Market Outlook 2025 at the Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX) in Jakarta on Thursday, AHY stated that robust infrastructure development is key to realizing President Prabowo Subianto’s ambitious vision of achieving eight percent economic growth.
AHY highlighted the importance of enhancing regional connectivity through the development of modern airports, efficient ports, well-connected stations, reliable train networks, and high-quality roads.
“Connectivity between regions directly impacts economic growth and the overall well-being of our communities,” AHY explained. “Therefore, it is essential to strike a delicate balance between development and environmental preservation.”
He stressed the need to prioritize environmental sustainability in all infrastructure projects, stating, “We must not forget about the environment if we aim for high growth. We have a responsibility to protect our Earth and ensure that our children and grandchildren can also benefit from its resources. Otherwise, we are being selfish and short-sighted.”
AHY lauded the collaborative efforts of the Indonesian Securities Analysts Association (AAEI), the CSA Community, and the IDX in organizing the Economic and Market Outlook 2025. He expressed his appreciation for the event, emphasizing its role in facilitating discussions and exploring innovative solutions to secure capital and budget for infrastructure development, encompassing not only physical infrastructure but also crucial human resource development.
Recognizing the global commitment to combating climate change, AHY highlighted the government’s focus on green infrastructure development to achieve the target of net-zero emissions by 2060.
He assured the audience that for every infrastructure development project, the government will issue new policies and enforce stricter regulations that align with international commitments, such as the Paris Agreement.
