“Informing is not intervening”, “Ratifies a certain bias”: ruling party supports Jackson after ruling by the Comptroller for disregard

This Friday the report of the Comptroller General of the Republic was released in which it warns that the minister of the Segpres, Giorgio Jacksonwas not adjusted to the “necessary disregard”, this within the framework of the role it played in the agreement between official parties to introduce reforms to the new Constitution in case of winning the Approval.

The reactions arrived that same day from Congress. The deputies who filed the request, Joanna Pérez and Eric Aedo, both from the Christian Democratic Party (DC), together with Juan Antonio Coloma (UDI), Andrés Longton (RN), Luciano Cruz-Coke (Evópoli) and Francisco Undurraga (Evópoli) , summoned the Secretary of State to leave his post for, according to them, exceeding the limits of his role.

Faced with this, the head of the Segpres replied that “it has not crossed my mind.” On the other hand, from the government, the government spokesperson minister, Camila Vallejoat a press point held in La Moneda, defended the actions of his ministerial colleague and affirmed that Jackson has “all support” of President Gabriel Boric to continue in office.

In this line, from the ruling party, this Saturday both the deputy Karol Cariola (PC), as the president of the PPD, Natalia Piergentiliendorsed and gave their support to the minister.

Along these lines, Cariola assured that this “He called on all political forces, from all sectors, Approval and Rejection, to present proposals regarding what comes following September 5”.

While Piergentili indicated that “the opinion of the Comptroller is very clear that the minister can receive the proposals of the parties and in that sense, in addition, we made a proposal to the country, which did not end up being forged through Minister Jackson to clarify legitimate doubts and to strengthen the constitutional project”.

The PC deputy also added: “What the Comptroller does is establish a call for attention Regarding being careful around some phrases in particular, but Minister Jackson clearly called on all forces, Approval, Rejection, to agree, to be able to establish proposals and that the Segrpres was going to to receive”.

Thus, he assured that Jackson responded to the call made by President Gabriel Boric, “that was actually a call that made the President of the Republic, that is how we read it, beyond the particular phrase that the Comptroller questions, they are not the total statements of the minister, therefore I think that in this we must be careful”. And he reiterated that “we from the command have constantly said that informing is not intervening.”

Likewise, the president of the PPD maintained that “those who today criticize Minister Jackson they have not been able to deliver any proposal to the country, so I would prefer that they concentrate on generating proposals and not on criticizing actions that also did not come to fruition”. Adding that “the Comptroller’s opinions give us a route, a manual of behavior in the administrative field, that in no case mitigates the value and political action that Minister Jackson has.”

From Social Convergence (CS), the deputy Gael Yeomanscalled on parliamentarians to “keep calm and lower the hate, because the Segpres has the obligation to receive those legislative proposals that are raised”, and added that “you should not get lost in this, the same Comptroller indicates that the minister has acted with total legality in his actions”.

Along the same lines, deputy Gonzalo Winter (CS) made a call to “those who are for the Rejection and who want to make reforms, whether the Rejection wins or the Approval wins, that they send them to the Ministry of the General Secretariat of the Presidency because it is their job and in fact many do it by sending proposals.

“The CGR has observed lawful conduct by Minister Jackson, who has acted in accordance with the law, and also affects freedom of expression,” pointed out the Political Commission of the Socialist Party (PS) Chile, in relation to the opinion delivered on Friday.

In this regard, they gave their support to the Segpres minister, in the face of accusations of not adjusting to the “necessary disregard” in the face of the exit plebiscite.

“It seems to us that the decision of the Comptroller it is not attached to reality and confirms a certain bias. In effect, before the duty of information of the different State organs towards the citizenry has been affected, establishing – without understanding the legal foundations for it – that only three ministries can disseminate it, “said the commission. Contrary to what they indicated that the organ “You must reconsider the aforementioned opinion.”
