Information on the distribution of rice, sardines and other basic food basket items in August

Details on food allocations for the basic basket for the month of August.

The newspaper Havana Tribune has reported on the distribution of basic basket products corresponding to the month of August.

This month, the delivery includes some essential foodstuffs such as rice, sugar, beans, peas, baby food and canned sardines. Although the quantity and variety of these products remains limited.

Rice distribution has begun with an allocation of 5 pounds per consumer, plus an additional 1 kilogram free of charge.

Sugar distribution has also begun, with 2 pounds per consumer, as well as beans, of which 10 ounces are being delivered per person. Peas continue to be distributed to cover the months of June, July and August.

A highlight of this distribution is the delivery of two cans of sardines to people over 65 years of age. A scarce product that is highly valued in the daily diet, especially in a context of great difficulty in accessing a variety of foods.

Compotes, intended for children under 3 years old, are also part of the distribution, with 14 boxes per child.

Havana and the interior

Although these allocations represent a relief for many families, the quantity and variety of food available remains insufficient to cover the basic needs of the population.

Furthermore, it should be noted that the distribution of these products varies depending on availability in different areas of the country, which can generate uncertainty or discomfort among consumers.

Not to mention that consumers in the capital are prioritized over those in the rest of the country.

The Provincial Trade Company of Havana, responsible for distribution, has reminded that there may be changes in deliveries. It has made telephone numbers available to the population to obtain updated information.

In the midst of a difficult economic situation, with shortages of products and high inflation, these allocations are vital for millions of Cubans, who depend on the basic food basket to access essential foods.
