Infonavit forgives millions of pesos with the benefit of a program

MEXICO CITY.— The National Workers’ Housing Fund Institute (Infonavit) forgave 90,000 million pesos during the current federal administration, reported its director, Carlos Martinez.

The official reviewed yesterday in an interview with EFE his six years at the head of the institute and also the pending tasks in terms of housing in Mexico that he hopes will be undertaken by the next government headed by Claudia Sheinbaum.

“We have forgiven nearly 90 billion pesos in people’s debts,” he replied, pointing out what he would highlight most about his career in office.

Martínez boasts of having managed to restructure the debt of thousands of people in the country: “Reducing people’s debt is incredible because it changes their lives (…) we have stories of people who owed 3 million pesos and with this program we discount 2 million,” he explained.

The director referred to the program of “Early Settlement Discount” with which the workers could reduce the outstanding debt by up to 45% of your housing loan with an advance payment.

Very important challenge

Carlos Martínez praised the president-elect’s proposal that the State take on the construction of one million homes during the six-year terma task that will fall in part to Infonavit.

“It is a very important challenge but also a commitment to making housing a priority for your government,” he said.

For the director, during this six-year term the foundations have been laid, for example with the housing reform, so that in the next federal administration the construction of housing can be greatly promoted and the chronic housing deficit that the country suffers from can be reduced.
